Part 1 · Band 7

What do you like to do at home?

Source-reported band score · 195 words

Sample answer

The time I spend at home is probably the most comfortable and relaxing I can enjoy. It's my own habitat, where I can relax without interruption. For example, I love reading books at home. I might also clean my room. Moreover, I take care of my plants when I have spare time. I do my best to ensure they are healthy and thriving, as they bring a sense of calm to my environment. Another activity I enjoy is cooking. Trying out new recipes allows me to be creative, and I find it satisfying to prepare meals for my family. Sometimes, I invite friends over for dinner, which turns into a fun social event. Additionally, I like to watch movies or series in the comfort of my living room. It’s a great way to unwind after a long day. I often binge-watch shows, getting lost in different stories and characters. Finally, I also spend time on my hobbies, such as drawing or playing music, which helps me express myself. Overall, my home is a sanctuary where I can engage in activities that bring me joy and peace, making it the perfect place for relaxation and creativity.

Answer analysis

Fluency & Coherence

The answer develops in a clear sequence: it moves from reading and caring for plants to cooking, entertainment and hobbies, then closes with “my home is a sanctuary.” This gives it a coherent progression, though the many activities make it longer than a typical Part 1 response. As this is text only, spoken fluency cannot be assessed. Practise answering in 30–40 seconds, selecting three activities and briefly explaining why you enjoy them.

Lexical Resource

There is useful topic vocabulary, including “healthy and thriving,” “unwind” and “binge-watch,” and you explain why activities matter rather than only listing them. However, “my own habitat” sounds unusual for a home, and “the most comfortable and relaxing I can enjoy” is an awkward combination. Choose natural conversational collocations, such as “my own space,” and avoid repeating related ideas like relaxing, comfort and peace.

Grammatical Range & Accuracy

You use a good mix of sentence forms, including the relative clause “where I can relax without interruption” and the clause “which turns into a fun social event.” Most sentences are accurate and easy to follow. The opening, “The time I spend at home is probably the most comfortable and relaxing I can enjoy,” is grammatically awkward because the comparison is not clearly expressed. Recast it as a direct statement, then keep the rest of your varied structures.

Pronunciation

A recording is not available, so this is not an assessment of your pronunciation. For practice, mark the main stress in “binge-watch,” “healthy and thriving” and “a fun social event,” and group each phrase with the words around it as one thought unit. Record yourself answering the question, then check whether each phrase is easy to understand and whether you pause naturally between activities.

A transcript shows language and organisation. Fluency, delivery and pronunciation require an audio recording; the synthetic voice demonstrates the text, not the original speaker.

  • For a Part 1 response, choose three activities rather than listing every one; give a short reason for each.
  • Replace unusual or formal collocations such as “my own habitat” with everyday conversational wording such as “my own space.”
  • Practise a 30–40-second version aloud, using one clear transition between activities and a brief closing sentence.
