What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?

Source-reported band score · 203 words

Sample answer

I enjoy listening to music in my free time. The music I love is Bob's, just because Bob has a beautiful sound. I think it's smooth and peaceful when I listen. The sound of the saxophone is charming to listen to, and I love that. My mom also enjoys it, and I think that adds to the enjoyment. We often listen to Bob's music together, especially in the evenings when we are relaxing at home. It creates a lovely atmosphere. Besides Bob's music, I also like pop music. The catchy tunes and upbeat rhythms make me feel happy and energetic. I listen to pop music when I am exercising or when I want to lift my mood. Artists like Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran are some of my favorites because their songs are easy to sing along to. Sometimes, I also enjoy classical music. It helps me to concentrate when I am studying or doing homework. The melodies are calming and allow me to focus better. Overall, I appreciate different kinds of music because they all bring something unique to my life. Whether it’s relaxing with Bob’s smooth sounds or dancing to pop hits, music is an important part of my daily routine.

Answer analysis

Fluency & Coherence

The ideas progress clearly from Bob’s music and listening with your mom, to pop music for energy, and finally classical music for studying. The closing sentence ties these preferences together, although some points repeat earlier descriptions of music’s effects. Since this is text only, spoken fluency cannot be assessed. Practise a 45-second response using this same order, with one example for each type of music.

Lexical Resource

Phrases such as “upbeat rhythms,” “lift my mood” and “concentrate” give you useful variety and clearly describe how different music affects you. However, “music” and “sound” recur often, and “The music I love is Bob's” is less direct than it could be. Next, keep the specific vocabulary but vary a few repeated words and name the music naturally as Bob’s music.

Grammatical Range & Accuracy

You use a mix of sentence patterns, including reason clauses (“because their songs are easy to sing along to”) and time clauses (“when I am studying or doing homework”). Most sentences are clear and grammatically controlled. Some neighbouring sentences rely on similar simple patterns, so the answer could sound more varied. Next, combine one related pair of ideas with a linking clause, while keeping the rest of the response easy to follow.

Pronunciation

This text cannot show how you pronounce the answer, so this is a practice guide, not an assessment of a recording. Practise the word stress in “smooth and peaceful” and “catchy tunes,” then group “important part of my daily routine” into a natural thought group. Record yourself saying the full answer, mark where each idea ends, and check that the key words are clear without rushing.

A transcript shows language and organisation. Fluency, delivery and pronunciation require an audio recording; the synthetic voice demonstrates the text, not the original speaker.

  • Make the opening preference direct: name Bob’s music first, then give the reason you enjoy it.
  • For each music type, connect it to one clear situation and one effect, avoiding repeated explanations of how the sound feels.
  • Practise delivering the answer in 45 seconds: use one short section each for Bob’s music, pop and classical music, then finish with your overall view.
