Part 1 · Band 6

What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?

Source-reported band score · 41 words

Sample answer

I really like to listen to romantic songs because they create a good feeling in music. So I mostly prefer romantic songs, and sometimes I need some motivational songs. These are the two types of songs I prefer to listen to.

Answer analysis

Fluency & Coherence

The ideas move in a clear sequence: you name the music you enjoy, give a reason with “because,” then add motivational songs as a second preference. The final sentence summarizes the two types, though it repeats information rather than developing it further. Practise giving this answer in 20 seconds, adding one brief detail about when or why you choose each type.

Lexical Resource

You use relevant vocabulary such as “romantic songs” and “motivational songs,” and the listener can identify both preferences. However, “create a good feeling in music” is an awkward collocation, while “songs” and “prefer” are repeated. Next, learn a natural phrase such as “put me in a good mood” and practise varying “songs” with “music” or “tracks” where appropriate.

Grammatical Range & Accuracy

The answer uses complete sentences and correctly links a reason with “because”; “sometimes” also helps show frequency. There is no serious grammatical error, but the sentence pattern is repetitive, and “I mostly prefer” combines two similar preference expressions. For a cleaner answer, use one preference verb, then add a contrast with “although” or “but” to connect your two choices.

Pronunciation

This text-only response cannot be used to assess your actual pronunciation. As a practice guide, mark the main stress in “romantic songs” and “motivational songs,” and group the answer into thought units: “I really like romantic songs / because they put me in a good mood.” Record yourself saying it, then check whether each phrase is easy to understand and the key words are clearly stressed. This guide is not an assessment of a recording.

A transcript shows language and organisation. Fluency, delivery and pronunciation require an audio recording; the synthetic voice demonstrates the text, not the original speaker.
