  • Describe the overall shift from scientific research to tourism before listing individual map features.
  • Compare what stayed the same (the pier, beach, natural spring and rocks) with what was added or replaced.
  • Group details by location: the western pier and beach, the central hotel and leisure facilities, and the eastern spring, rocks and lookout.

Suggested structure

  1. Introduce what the two maps compare.
  2. Give an overview of the island’s main change and any notable features that remain.

Band 5.0

The provided diagrams delineate how an island named Paradise has developed from the past to the present. Overall, it is observed that the area on the left side of the isle has been converted into a hotel complex while the other side totally changed. It can be witnessed from the maps that the pier on the western coast is now served by a cruise ship, whereas a small boat is shown there in the past. In the earlier map, there was also a beach in the northwest and a scientific research station inland from the pier. Several palm trees occupied the central area, while a natural spring and rocks were located on the eastern side.

At present, the beach remains in the northwest, and swimming is permitted there. A swimming pool and a hotel complex have been added nearby, and the research station is no longer shown. The pier remains on the southwest coast, but a cruise ship now appears beside it. The spring and rocks remain in the east, with a scenic lookout added near the rocks. An open restaurant, a café and a barbecue area have also been built around the central and eastern parts of the island. Finally, a cycle path now links the facilities and runs around much of the island.

Targeted Improvement Tips

1
Revise the overview to state both the major additions and the features that remain, rather than saying the eastern side totally changed.
2
Organise the detail paragraphs by location: compare the western facilities first, then the central and eastern features.
3
Check each change sentence for an accurate time relationship and use present perfect forms, such as “has been added,” where appropriate.
