Ideas to explore

  • Identify the category that dominates throughout: social welfare leads in all three years, reaching its highest figure in 2014.
  • Separate steady increases from fluctuating or recovering patterns: health and wildlife rise each year, whereas social welfare falls before rebounding.
  • Notice categories that finish at or near their starting values: education returns to 8, while environment ends at 7 compared with 8 initially.

Suggested structure

  1. Introduce the chart by naming the measure, the six charity types and the 2012–2014 period.
  2. Give an overview identifying the largest category and the broad direction of change.
  3. Describe social welfare separately because its figures are much higher and fluctuate notably.
  4. Group the remaining categories by pattern, comparing their starting, middle and final figures.
  5. End with a concise comparison of which categories finished higher, level or lower than in 2012.

Band 4.0

The presented bar graph outlines the financial participation made by single organization to 6 distinct groups in year 2012, 2013 and 2014. As it is observed the company spends the highest on societal work and average on literacy, healthcare, surroundings and fauna and the least on artistic things. The data depicts that in year 2012 the donation for social welfare was 22, while education and environment both received 8. Health got 6, and wildlife and arts had 3 each. In 2013, social welfare fell to 16, but remained much higher than the other charities. Education decreased to 6 and environment to 5. In contrast, health rose slightly to 7 and wildlife increased to 4. The donation to arts stayed at 3. In 2014, social welfare reached 24, the highest figure on the chart. Health also increased to 9. Education went back to 8, while environment rose to 7. Wildlife got 5 and arts received 4. Overall, the company gave most money to social welfare in all three years, although its amount dropped in 2013 before rising again. Health, wildlife and arts increased over the period, while education ended at the same amount as in 2012, and environment was slightly lower.

Targeted Improvement Tips

1
Replace broad or approximate category names with the chart labels: social welfare, education, environment, health, wildlife and arts.
2
Write a one-sentence overview that states the highest category and the main changes, including social welfare’s dip in 2013 and recovery in 2014.
3
Before submitting, check articles and tense in the introduction; describe the 2012–2014 figures consistently in the past tense.
