Ideas to explore

  • Identify the category that dominates throughout: social welfare leads in all three years, reaching its highest figure in 2014.
  • Separate steady increases from fluctuating or recovering patterns: health and wildlife rise each year, whereas social welfare falls before rebounding.
  • Notice categories that finish at or near their starting values: education returns to 8, while environment ends at 7 compared with 8 initially.

Suggested structure

  1. Introduce the chart by naming the measure, the six charity types and the 2012–2014 period.
  2. Give an overview identifying the largest category and the broad direction of change.
  3. Describe social welfare separately because its figures are much higher and fluctuate notably.
  4. Group the remaining categories by pattern, comparing their starting, middle and final figures.
  5. End with a concise comparison of which categories finished higher, level or lower than in 2012.

Band 7.0

The graph illustrates the donation provided to six terms of charitable areas by a company in 3 years since 2012. Overall, Environment’s donation was subject to a downward trend while that of the remaining fields increased over the period. Besides, Social welfare received the most monetary support during the years. As can be seen from the chart, social welfare donations stood at 22 in 2012, fell to 16 in 2013, and then climbed to 24 in 2014, the highest figure shown. Education was given 8 in 2012 and 2014, with a dip to 6 in between. Environment followed a similar but lower pattern, decreasing from 8 to 5 before recovering to 7; therefore, it did not rise overall. Health support increased steadily, from 6 to 7 and then 9. Donations to wildlife also grew each year, from 3 in 2012 to 5 in 2014, while arts funding was unchanged at 3 in the first two years before reaching 4. Thus, although the initial overview describes increases in the other fields, the year-by-year figures show that education and environment fluctuated, with the latter ending below its 2012 level. Social welfare remained by far the largest recipient in all three years, whereas arts and wildlife received the smallest amounts.

Targeted Improvement Tips

1
Replace the broad overview claim with the actual pattern: social welfare was highest, health, wildlife and arts rose, education fluctuated but ended level, and environment ended below its starting point.
2
Group the detailed comparisons: give the social welfare figures together, then summarise the lower-value categories with accurate start, dip or recovery, and end figures.
3
Use a final accuracy check to compare every overview statement with the 2012 and 2014 bars; write the date range as “from 2012 to 2014” rather than “since 2012.”
