Ideas to explore

  • Compare the rooms’ capacities, dimensions and weekly prices as the main overview features.
  • Describe what the rooms share, including their 6-metre width, bathroom position and kitchenette.
  • Contrast the furnishing: two beds, two desks and a central dining set in the larger room versus one bed and one desk in the single room.

Suggested structure

  1. Introduce the two plans and identify their occupants.
  2. Give an overview of the main contrasts in size, furnishing and rent.
  3. Compare the dimensions, including the shared width and different depths.

Band 4.0

There are two types of student rooms at an Australian university, which are illustrated in the given chart. Overall, although in the student room for two individuals there are two beds and a table with chairs, it is much more cramped for two persons and cheaper than teo-personed room. While a single-student room has a bed and a study desk, the two-person room has two of each. The single room costs $200 per week, while the room for two people costs $350 per week. Both rooms are six metres long, but the two-person room is four metres wide and the single room is 2.5 metres wide. The shared room therefore has more floor space in total, although this is used by two students. It contains two beds and two study desks, as well as a table and chairs in the centre. By contrast, there is one bed and one desk in the single room, and no table and chairs are shown there. Both layouts include a bathroom and cooking facilities, including a stove and sink. Overall, the single room is smaller and costs less, whereas the double room offers more furniture but is shared by two people.

Targeted Improvement Tips

1
Write an overview that directly contrasts the weekly prices and room widths: the single room is less expensive and narrower.
2
Keep each comparison explicit by naming the room, then giving its figure—for example, “The two-person room is four metres wide.”
3
Proofread the opening sentence for confusing comparisons, missing articles, and spelling, especially around “cheaper than” and room names.
