Band 6.0

The map delineates the disparities between a double room and a single room for students at an Australian University. Overall, the two-people’s room has a larger area, along with a higher price than the single. However, the facilities in both rooms do not display significantly different. With the room for one student, the rental fee is $200 per week, compared with $350 for the double room. Both rooms are 6 metres wide, but the two-person room is 4 metres deep, whereas the single room measures 2.5 metres in depth. Accordingly, the former has a floor area of 24 square metres, compared with 15 square metres for the latter.

In terms of layout, both rooms include a bathroom, a bed, a study desk and kitchen facilities, including a stove and sink. The larger room has two beds and two study desks, while the single room contains one of each. It also provides a table and chairs, which are absent from the smaller room. The single room has a more compact arrangement, with its bed and desk positioned on the right side. Both plans show the bathroom in the upper-left area and kitchen facilities along the left side. Overall, the double room offers more space and accommodation for two, while the single room is less expensive and more compact.

Targeted Improvement Tips

1
Write the overview after identifying both the main similarities and the clearest differences; here, mention that the rooms share basic facilities but differ in capacity and dining furniture.
2
Check every numerical comparison against the plan: both rooms are 6 metres wide, while their depths are 4 metres and 2.5 metres, and their rents are $350 and $200 per week.
3
Proofread the introduction for noun forms and adjective grammar. Replace “two-people’s room” with a natural phrase and check that “different” follows a suitable verb.
