Ideas to explore

  • The clearest overall change is the rise in gate capacity from 8 gates at present to 18 after redevelopment.
  • The airport keeps its basic left-right arrangement: departures are on the left and arrivals on the right.
  • The future plan adds passenger services and replaces the walkway with a sky-train connection.

Suggested structure

  1. Paraphrase the task and identify the airport and planned timeframe.
  2. Give an overview of the largest changes, especially the increase in gates and added facilities.
  3. Describe the present terminal arrangement and its connection to the gates.
  4. Explain the future concourse shape, new services and sky-train link.
  5. End with a concise comparison of what stays similar and what changes.

Band 8.0

The plans provide details of a proposal for the one-year renovation of Southwest Airport. Overall, the main new features will be increasing the number of gates together with the addition of a range of new facilities. Entrance to the departure and arrival sections will largely go unaltered, although additional doors will be installed in both. At present, the airport has eight gates, with four on either side of a short central passage. After redevelopment, this gate area will extend into two longer arms serving 18 gates in total, divided equally between the two sides. This represents an increase of ten gates.

The main terminal will retain its basic layout: security and passport control will remain in the upper part of the building, while departures will be on the left and arrivals on the right. The plans also show extra entrance doors for both passenger areas. The range of services, however, will expand. Check-in and a café are included in the redeveloped terminal, alongside new bag-drop and ATM facilities. In addition, passengers will have access to a sky train and car-hire service, neither of which appears on the current plan. Overall, the project combines greater gate capacity with more passenger services while preserving the separation of departing and arriving passengers.

Targeted Improvement Tips

1
Clarify the timing in the opening: say that redevelopment is planned for next year, rather than describing it as a “one-year renovation.”
2
Make the overview more direct by stating the two headline changes together: gate numbers rise from eight to 18, and the terminal gains additional services.
3
When describing the diagrams, distinguish retained features from additions—for example, name the unchanged security/passport-control layout before listing the new bag drop, ATM, sky train, and car hire.
