Band 9.0

The table presents data regarding internet usage across six distinct categories segmented by age group, ranging from teenagers to individuals aged 70 and above. Notably, email usage remains consistently high across all age brackets, while other internet activities display significant variation in frequency among different age groups. In the domain of email usage, the percentages for this activity range narrowly from 90% among teenagers and people in their 60s to a peak of 95% among those in their 50s. Overall, email is by far the most common activity in every age group, whereas music and video downloads generally become less popular with age.

Online gaming is especially popular with people in their 20s (88%), compared with 80% of teenagers. Its use drops sharply to 36% in the 30s and reaches a low of 20% among people in their 50s, before rising to 27% in the 60s and 29% in the oldest group. Downloads follow a clearer downward pattern, falling from 52% among teens to just 6% for people aged 70 and over.

Online shopping peaks among people in their 30s, at 69%, and remains high among those in their 20s, 40s, 50s and 60s (64–67%). The figures are lower for teenagers and the 70+ group, at 39% and 40% respectively. Searching for people is comparatively uncommon, ranging from 3% among teens to a high of 33% in the 30s. Travel reservations also attract substantial use, with the figures shown ranging from 51% to 74%.

Targeted Improvement Tips

1
Keep the overview to the two strongest patterns: email use is consistently high, while downloads decline with age.
2
When reporting a peak or low, name the age group beside the figure, as in “95% among those in their 50s.”
3
Review the travel-reservation row and compare its age groups only where the values and their column positions are legible.
