Ideas to explore

  • Downloading music and videos shows a clear age-related decline, from 52% among teenagers to 6% among people aged 70 and over.
  • Some activities have an age-group peak rather than a steady trend: gaming is highest in the 20s, while online shopping and searching for people peak in the 30s.

Suggested structure

  1. Introduce the table, its subject and the age groups.
  2. Give an overview of the most consistent pattern and the clearest age-related change.
  3. Compare email and gaming using their highest, lowest and contrasting age-group figures.
  4. Describe downloads, shopping and searching, grouping figures by trend or peak.
  5. Add the travel-reservation comparison using only values that can be matched confidently to their age groups.

Band 9.0

The tablet above displays the internet activity of individuals categorized by age groups, represented as percentages. Among the features of the internet listed, email is the most widely used, with all groups reporting usage above 90 percent. Notably, individuals in their fifties have the highest usage rate at 95 percent. In contrast, searching for people is among the least popular activities in every age group, ranging from just 3% of teenagers to a peak of 33% among people in their thirties. Overall, the table shows that email is consistently popular, whereas downloading music and videos becomes less common with age. Travel reservations and online purchases are more frequent among adults than among teenagers and the oldest group.

For online gaming, the figure is highest among people in their twenties, at 88%, before falling sharply to 36% in the thirties and remaining between 20% and 29% in older groups. Downloading music or videos follows a clearer downward pattern, declining from 52% for teenagers to only 6% for those aged 70 and over.

Travel bookings rise from 0% among teenagers to a high of 74% in the thirties, then settle at 58–65% in the older adult groups. Online purchases are also concentrated among adults aged 20 to 60, peaking at 69% in the thirties, but fall to 40% among the over-70s. Email use varies little, from 90% to 95%.

Targeted Improvement Tips

1
Verify every overview statement against the smallest and largest table values; in particular, distinguish “90%” from “above 90%.”
2
Group the body details by pattern: entertainment activities, followed by travel reservations and online purchases.
3
Use concise, accurate chart terms such as “the table,” “the proportion,” and “the activity,” rather than broad phrases such as “features of the internet.”
