Band 5.0

The internet usage in six various age groups is provided in the given table. Overall, it can be seen that the number of teens that rely on the internet mainly use it for news, online games, downloads and for buying products. As the age group increases, it can be seen that more and more people use it for travel reservations and online purchases, although these activities do not rise steadily in every older group. Email is the most common activity in all age groups, with figures between 90% and 95%, and it peaks at 95% among people in their 50s. By contrast, online games and downloading music or videos are more popular among younger users. Gaming reaches 88% in the 20s, compared with 20% among those in their 50s, while downloads fall from 52% for teens to just 6% for people aged 70 and over.

Online purchasing rises from 39% among teens to a high of 69% in the 30s, then falls to 40% in the oldest group. Travel reservations peak at 74% among people in their 30s, before decreasing to 58% in their 60s and rising slightly to 61% for the over-70s. Searching for people is comparatively uncommon, ranging from 3% among teens to a maximum of 33% in the 30s.

Targeted Improvement Tips

1
Replace “news” in the overview with activities actually listed in the table, and identify e-mail as the most consistently popular activity.
2
Before writing, note the peak and low point for each changing activity: for example, games peak at 88% in the 20s and downloads decline from 52% among teens to 6% among the over-70s.
3
After drafting, check subject–verb agreement in long noun phrases and remove repeated framing such as “it can be seen.”
