What do you like to do at home?

Source-reported band score · 41 words

Sample answer

I do a lot of fun activities at home from time to time. I watch fiction movies with my friends. And I want to try to have alone time at home, and that's why I frequently spend time with my family.

Answer analysis

Fluency & Coherence

The answer moves from general activities to films with friends, then to wanting time alone and spending time with family. The final connection, “that's why,” makes the ideas seem causally linked when they are better presented as separate preferences. Text alone cannot show spoken fluency. Practise a 30-second response using this answer: state one activity, add a detail, then contrast time alone with family time.

Lexical Resource

The answer uses relevant everyday language, including “fun activities,” “fiction movies,” and “alone time,” so the topic is clear. However, the vocabulary is quite general, and “fiction movies” sounds less natural than “fiction films” or “fictional films.” To develop the answer, choose a more precise description of what you watch or add one brief detail about the kind of films you enjoy.

Grammatical Range & Accuracy

You use simple present forms appropriately in “I watch” and “I frequently spend,” and the answer includes a longer sentence joined with “and.” However, the final sentence joins wanting time alone to spending time with family using “that's why,” which creates an unclear relationship between the ideas. Practise connecting preferences with “although” or “but,” and check that each linking phrase expresses the intended relationship.

Pronunciation

Pronunciation cannot be assessed from text, and this practice guide is not an assessment of a recording. Practise stressing the second syllable in “activities” and the first in “frequently.” Say the answer in thought groups: “I watch fiction movies with my friends” and “I frequently spend time with my family.” Record yourself reading it, then check whether the stressed syllables are clear and the groups are easy to follow.

A transcript shows language and organisation. Fluency, delivery and pronunciation require an audio recording; the synthetic voice demonstrates the text, not the original speaker.

  • Give one specific detail about the films you watch, such as a genre or what you enjoy about watching with friends.
  • Connect wanting time alone and spending time with family using a contrast word such as “although” or “but.”
  • Practise a 30-second answer aloud with three parts: an activity, a supporting detail, and a second preference.
